uThukela resolves long-standing sewer blockage in Farquhar Road

It remains unclear how the rock ended up in the sewerage system.

Residents’ complaints finally addressed

uThukela District Municipality has successfully unblocked a sewer line in Farquhar Road, bringing relief to residents who had been reporting the issue since the beginning of the year.

According to reports, the blockage was caused by a large rock lodged inside the sewer system. The obstruction disrupted normal water flow for months, prompting ongoing complaints from the community.

Resident John Thorley explained that he began reporting the problem as early as January or February. He said he initially raised the issue with Councillor Sharon Buys, who then escalated the matter to the district municipality on his behalf.

Cause of blockage remains unclear

Municipal teams have removed the rock, restoring proper function to the sewerage system. However, it remains unclear how the rock ended up inside the sewer in the first place.

While the issue has now been resolved, residents hope that measures will be put in place to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure quicker response times to service delivery concerns.
