Newcastle Lions launch winter drive to support the needy
Residents are urged to donate warm clothing and other essentials this winter.
In an effort to ease the impact of winter on those in need, the Newcastle Lions Club is calling on residents to lend a helping hand.
Members are urging the community to consider what it would be like to face winter without adequate clothing, blankets and other basic essentials.
For many, especially children, this is a daily reality.

Helping the community stay warm
Many children are forced to walk to school in clothing that offers little to no protection against the bitter cold.
To address this need, the Lions will host their seventh annual Winter Warmer Project. The initiative aims to support underprivileged members of the community and help them stay warm during the colder months.
Donations of warm clothing, jerseys, jackets, winter pyjamas, closed shoes and blankets are welcome.
Donations needed before June 10
“Your generous contributions will make a significant impact on the lives of those in need. If you have gently-used clothing to donate, we would be immensely grateful,” said the organisers.
They added that boys’ clothing and smaller men’s sizes are especially needed.
Donations can be dropped off before June 10 at Broker Assist, Pam Golding, Nashua and Davida van der Merwe Optometrist.
Furthermore, cash donations are also welcome and can be paid into the following account:
- Bank: FNB
- Account name: Newcastle Ladies Lions Club
- Account number: 62362150767
- Reference: Your name, followed by Winter Warmer
For more information, contact Annette on 083 629 3909 or Jakkie on 073 106 0853.
“Your support will go a long way towards making this winter more bearable for those less fortunate,” they concluded.
