Chinese community hosts golf day to celebrate belonging

The Chinese community hosted its annual golf day and strengthened local connections.

The annual Chinese Community Golf Day, hosted on April 11, is a declaration by the town’s Chinese residents that ‘Newcastle is home’.

Event strengthens community ties

Andy Hsu, who spoke on behalf of the Chinese community, said the event is more than a competition. It is also a social gathering and networking opportunity.

“It’s to show that the Chinese community also participates in and hosts local events. We are also part of the Newcastle community,” said Hsu.

Hsu continued, “The golf day was well supported. We had a field of about 60 golfers. It was a very relaxed, enjoyable day. We hope even more people will join next year.”

Winners shine on the day

You Xie Li emerged the overall winner of the competition with 44 points.

Zhu Yong came second with 42 points, in third and fourth place were Ben Chowles and Rob Pryde, who both had 41 points, and coming in fifth place was Boland Koorts with 39 points.

This Saturday, April 18, the Newcastle Gold Club hosts the St Dominics Academy Gold Day.
