Police investigate fatal Osizweni shooting
The motive for the murder is still unknown at this stage.
Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a Bangladeshi national near Ntendeka Bridge in Osizweni on Saturday (May 9), as reported by the Newcastle Advertiser on Sunday.
Amajuba District SAPS communications spokesperson Constable Nonjabulo Langa confirmed that police were called to the murder scene on Steildrift Road at about 13:11.
Victim ambushed on the way from Newcastle
According to a witness who was travelling with the deceased, they were returning from Newcastle after buying stock for the victim’s tuck shop.
As they approached the Ntendeka Bridge, one or more suspects travelling in a white Toyota Corolla with no registration plates ambushed them.
“The suspects opened fire, resulting in the deceased sustaining two gunshot wounds to the head and two to the upper right side of his body,” said Langa.
Paramedics declared the victim dead at the scene. He has been identified as Sumon Miah.

Police continue investigations
Langa said the suspects and the motive for the murder remain unknown.
