NKZN Karateka prepare for National Championships
Newcastle karateka are sharpening their skills ahead of the SA JKA national championships.
Top karateka from across South Africa will converge on Johannesburg this weekend as they compete in the SA JKA National Championship.
The championship will take place at the Ellis Park Indoor Arena on May 15 and 16, with competitors from around the country aiming to test their skills against the nation’s best.
Newcastle session puts karateka to the test
In preparation for the prestigious event, NKZN JKA karateka took part in a compulsory training session at the Newcastle Showgrounds on the morning of May 1.
The session was divided into two groups.
While one group trained, the other participated in a mini-competition conducted under the same criteria, rules and regulations that will apply at the national championship.
This format gave judges and referees valuable practical experience and allowed the karateka to perform under pressure in a familiar environment.
Sensei Johan Swart wishes team success
Sensei Johan Swart, JKA 5th Dan and area head of NKZN JKA, said the organisation wished all participants and officials well.
“On behalf of the management of NKZN JKA, we wish all karateka competing at this prestigious event, as well as those working as table officials, judges and referees, safe travels and a successful tournament,” he said.
Anyone seeking more information about classes and fees, or wishing to join NKZN JKA, can contact Sensei Johan Swart on 083 658 7157.
