Karate provincials draw 300 and crown top fighters to Newcastle

SA JKA Provincials attract competitors to Newcastle, with top athletes advancing to national championships.

Discipline, practice, and pride were on display when more than 300 people attended the South African Japan Karate Association (SA JKA) Provincials at the Farmers Hall in Newcastle on Saturday, March 28.

SA JKA’s Northern KZN Provincials took place with 293 entries from Newcastle, Dundee, Volksrust, Hluhluwe, Pongola, Piet Retief, Paulpietersburg, Ladysmith, and Vryheid. The top three in each division were chosen to represent the province on May 15-16 at the SA JKA Karate Championships at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg.

4000 karate-ka from across South Africa will participate in the selection process for the national team.
