Glencoe wrestlers seek support for national championships

Fourteen Glencoe wrestlers have been selected to represent KwaZulu-Natal at the national championships in Pretoria.

The Northern Natal Rhinos wrestling club in Glencoe is appealing to businesses and community members for sponsorships to help local athletes compete at the South African National Wrestling Championships in Pretoria on May 30.

Coach Steven Brown said 14 wrestlers from the club have been selected to represent KwaZulu-Natal at the prestigious event. Club appeals for community support “The club is non-profit and several of our wrestlers come from underprivileged backgrounds.

Without financial assistance, some may be forced to withdraw from the team,” Brown said. He explained that the cost per wrestler is about R1 960, covering transport, the KwaZulu-Natal tracksuit and entry fees. Brown said urgent sponsorships are needed to ensure all selected wrestlers are able to attend the championships.

“We appeal to businesses and community members to support these young athletes and help them represent the province with pride,” he added.
