French delegation to visit Dundee for Prince Imperial commemorations

French Embassy representatives will visit Dundee during this year’s Prince Imperial commemorations and French Week celebrations

Dundee and the surrounding battlefields region will host a visiting French delegation later this month as part of the annual Prince Imperial commemorations.

The three-day programme, known as French Week, will run from May 29 to 31 and includes events in Pietermaritzburg, Pomeroy, Dundee and uQweqwe.

French Embassy delegation to attend

Founder of the Prince Imperial Route, Pietermaritzburg-based Glenn Flannagan, confirmed that senior representatives from the French Embassy will attend this year’s commemorations.

Among the guests will be First Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission Benjamin Cabouat, French Education Attaché Johann Robinet and embassy official Pascale Queffélec.

“We look forward to a fun soirée together in delightful Dundee,” Flannagan said.

The Prince Imperial Route commemorates the death of Napoleon Eugène Louis Jean Joseph, the last Prince Imperial of France, who was killed near uQweqwe on June 1, 1879, during the Anglo-Zulu War.

As part of the visit, donations of sporting equipment and food items will also be made to the UQweqwe community.

A French-themed evening, titled Soirée Française, will be hosted at Chez Nous Bed and Breakfast in Dundee on Saturday, May 30.

Flannagan encouraged residents and visitors to support the event and celebrate the long-standing historical links between France and the Dundee battlefields region.
