Young swimmer makes waves in Oceans 8 Charity Swim

Ziyanda Mthembu set a personal best time in the open water event.

10-year-old Ziyanda Mthembu, a pupil at Hamilton School, delivered an outstanding performance at the Oceans 8 Charity Swim on May 24. She completed the 1.6km swim in a personal best time of 38:49 and raised R6450 for charity.

Rising young talent

Ziyanda began open water swimming in 2024 at the age of eight and has already completed events such as the Midmar Mile, Sterkfontein Swim Challenge and Wagendrift Open Water Challenge, where she placed first in the Junior Female category.

Next event

She is currently preparing for her next open water race at the end of June. Her mum is extremely proud and wishes her everything of the best.
