Tourism revision programme supports Grade 12 learners in Vryheid

More than 300 tourism learners attended a revision programme ahead of exams.

The second annual Tourism Cross-Day Revision Programme recently took place at Vryheid Comprehensive Secondary School, bringing together Grade 12 tourism learners from 11 local schools.

More than 300 learners attended the programme, which focused on revising and unpacking content covered during the first and second school terms.

The initiative aims to strengthen learners’ understanding of tourism concepts and better prepare them for their exams.

Collaboration between schools drives success

The programme was organised by Nqobile Makathini of KwaNotshelwa High School, Miss Shandu of KwaBhanya High School, and Mr Mavuso of Bambanani High School in Pongola.

During the revision sessions, learners received guidance on challenging topics including time zone calculations, tourism icons and marketing concepts.

Supporting learners beyond the classroom

Makathini said the programme was started to provide additional support to both learners and teachers.

“We conduct these programmes to assist tourism learners in gaining a deeper understanding of various topics. We started the programme in August 2024 with the aim of supporting learners and teachers beyond the classroom. We would like to see even more schools participating because our goal is for learners to gain confidence in the subject and excel in their studies.”

Appreciation for community support

Makathini expressed gratitude to the teachers who contributed to the success of the programme. She also thanked career guidance practitioner Zakhele Xulu, tourism subject advisor Dr Nkumane, Mxolisi Madide, parents and local tourism teachers for their continued support.

Final session planned for September

The final Tourism Cross-Day Revision Programme for the year is scheduled to take place in September.
