SAPS runner powers to personal best at Comrades Marathon
Constable Mndunge earned himself a Bill Rowan Medal as well as a Back-to-Back Medal for consecutive runs.
Constable LS Mndunge of the Ladysmith SAPS Visible Policing Unit has once again demonstrated determination and discipline to successfully complete his second Comrades Marathon this year.
Improved performance earns Bill Rowan Medal
Mndunge improved on his previous Comrades time by an impressive 51 minutes, crossing the finish line in seven hours and 58 minutes.
His outstanding performance earned him a prestigious Bill Rowan Medal, awarded to runners who complete the gruelling ultra-marathon between seven-and-a-half and nine hours.
Back-to-back achievement
In addition to the Bill Rowan Medal, Mndunge also received a Back-to-Back Medal, recognising his achievement of completing the Comrades Marathon in two consecutive years. The accomplishment highlights his commitment to fitness, perseverance and personal excellence.
Senior management applauds success
Mndunge’s achievement was warmly applauded by the acting district commissioner, Brigadier ZO Kunene, and Ladysmith station commander, Brigadier TM Mngadi.
Both senior officers congratulated him on his remarkable performance. They further encouraged him to inspire and recruit more police officers, particularly younger members, to take part in future Comrades Marathons and embrace a culture of health, fitness and resilience within the South African Police Service.
