According to the tuck shop owner (an Ethiopian national), he was alerted by his landlord’s son, who informed him that people were breaking into his shop.

The owner then reported the incident to the authorities.

When police arrived at the scene, the alleged burglars attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended and arrested.

“Perishable goods to the value of around R5000 were recovered from the suspects,” said Constable Langa.

Police also recovered a toy pistol and three live 9mm rounds of ammunition from one of the men, who has been charged with unlawful possession of ammunition in addition to existing charges.

The four suspects, all aged 19 and 20, were charged with business burglary and are expected to appear in court soon.
