KZN Health Department says there is no Ebola in Ladysmith
The department warns that legal action may be taken against those who deliberately create or spread false health-related claims.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health has dismissed, as false, a voice note circulating on social media, claiming there are Ebola cases at King Edward Hospital and in Ladysmith. The department has confirmed that there are no confirmed or suspected Ebola cases anywhere in KwaZulu-Natal or South Africa.
Public urged not to share misinformation
In a statement issued this afternoon (July 2), health officials condemned the spread of the fake voice note, warning that it causes unnecessary panic and fear. The department urges the public not to share unverified information and warns that legal action may be taken against those who deliberately create or spread false health-related claims.
South Africa remains Ebola-free
The department assures the public that South Africa’s disease surveillance and outbreak response systems remain fully operational. Officials reiterated that the country remains Ebola-free and advised residents to rely only on official Department of Health communication channels for verified health information.
