Nearly 400 athletes competed in Vryheid's Fortress Running Series despite chilly conditions.

Participants in the Fortress Running Series braved the chilly conditions on Saturday morning as nearly 400 athletes took part.

The event featured 10km and 5km races, attracting runners of all ages.

Top performers in the 10km races

In the men’s 10km race, Samukelo Ngobese claimed first place, followed by Sizwe Ngobese in second and Ntando Ximba in third.

In the 10km women’s race, Kwanele Sikhakhane secured first place, with Msawenkosi Nsibande taking second and Minenhle Mathe in third place.

Community support praised

The Fortress Running Series organisers congratulated the winners and thanked everyone who played a role in making the event a success.

“We were delighted to see members of the community coming out to support the runners, while children enjoyed the jumping castles and entertainment.
