What can only be described as a massive pipe burst occurred this morning (September 25) in Farquhar Road, on the hillside behind the Presbyterian Church. It resembled a flood as large amounts of clean drinking water came gushing down around the church and into the road.

Construction companies, residents and church members immediately sprung into action as they worked together to try and control the situation while waiting for uThukela District Municipality to shut off the mains and attend to the damaged pipe.

uThukela dispatches technical team

uThukela confirmed in a statement that its technical team had been dispatched to the site.

“This notice serves to inform the community of Alfred Duma Local Municipality that we have a burst pipe in Farquhar Road. This is the 300mm gravity main from the Golf Course Reservoir to the Old Golf Course area. Our technical team are on site to attend to this emergency,” read the statement.

Residents can expect water shortages

uThukela warned that, as a result, all areas that are supplied by this reservoir will be affected by water shortages while the pipe is being repaired.

“We will issue updates as and when new information becomes available. Apologies for the inconvenience caused,” concluded uThukela.
