Unlicensed firearms seized in separate uMzinyathi operations
Police arrest two men after allegedly finding them with unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Kranskop and Msinga.
Police seized two unlicensed firearms and ammunition during separate intelligence-driven and crime-prevention operations in uMzinyathi this week.
On Wednesday, September 23, District Crime Intelligence members, working with the Tactical Response Team (TRT), conducted an operation at Extension 19 informal settlement in the Kranskop policing precinct following information about an unlicensed firearm.
A 36-year-old man was arrested after police allegedly found him in possession of an unlicensed .38 revolver and ammunition. A toy firearm was also recovered.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Kranskop Magistrates’ Court.
Stopped and arrested at a soccer tournament
In a separate operation on Thursday, September 24, members of the Msinga Crime Prevention Unit were monitoring a soccer tournament at Msinga Top when they conducted a stop-and-search.
A 38-year-old man was arrested after allegedly being found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and ammunition. He is expected to appear in the Msinga Magistrates’ Court.
SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Siyabonga Nkwanyana said the confiscated firearms would undergo ballistic examination to establish whether they had been used in other criminal offences.
