VHS celebrates excellence in sport, culture and academics

Outgoing head boy and head girl Kyle Barsdorf and Aphile Zulu delivered heartfelt farewell speeches

Vryheid High School (VHS) recently hosted two prestigious events, namely the Sport & Culture Prize-Giving on October 16 and the Academic Prize-Giving on October 17. These ceremonies recognised and honoured the outstanding achievements of the school’s learners.
The Sport & Culture Prize-Giving ceremony took place in the VHS hall. The evening showcased the school’s talented learners who excelled in various sporting and cultural activities. The top award winners were as follows:
• Sportswoman of the Year: Zani Wagner;
• Sportsman of the Year: Kwanele Mtshali.
These exceptional individuals demonstrated remarkable dedication, skill and sportsmanship throughout the year.
The Academic Prize-Giving ceremony honoured learners who achieved academic excellence. Guest of honour Mr P Noomé (former principal of VHS from 1995 to 2011) graced the occasion with his presence.
Noomé expressed his pride at seeing the school’s neat and clean surroundings, reflecting the students’ discipline and responsibility. He congratulated the award winners and encouraged the learners to continue striving for excellence. The most notable academic award winners were: Aphile Zulu, Kyle Barsdorf, Muhammad Khan, Rebecca Mattison, Yvette de Swart, Lwandile Khuzwayo, Samantha Dawn Lewarne and Siphesihle Simelane.
These Grade 12 learners received Honours Certificates for Academic Achievement.
