Matric learners of Amajuba High School celebrated the end of their high school journey with an intimate but memorable evening of style and glamour on Saturday, July 26.

Family and friends gathered at the school from 3pm to welcome each learner and their escort to the farewell with applause and cheers, as they made their way across a VIP ramp to the school hall

As dusk gave way to sunset, the learners marked their transition from adolescence to adulthood with hope for the future, making lasting memories with their classmates and teachers.

Magda Blackler, a teacher at the school and one of the organisers of the event, explained that this year’s theme, ‘Midnight: Your Future is Dawning’, was meant to symbolise the end of a chapter in one’s life and the start of a new one, in the same way that nightfall gives way to a new day.

The décor in the school hall was carefully selected to reflect the theme.

Teachers surprised the matric learners, at the event, with an impromptu prize-giving, presenting them with awards for ‘best-dressed’ and ‘best-personality’, etc.

“The farewell went very well, with learners describing it as ‘top-shelf’. They thoroughly enjoyed dancing the night away. We also had good support from the parents,” said Blackler, adding that the highlight of the event for her, was the expression of awe on each learners’ face as they walked into the hall.

Blacker thanked Majuba Lodge, Deo Church, Emmanuel Church, The Barn, Ferrum High School and Ithemba Security for their help in making the event a success.
