Zakhele Xulu wins Top Leadership Award at SAPA conference

Nkwabazi Primary principal Zakhele Xulu honoured for innovative leadership at SAPA national conference.

Zakhele Xulu, principal of Nkwabazi Primary School in Louwsburg, was recently honoured at the prestigious South African Principals Association (SAPA) national conference, held in the Eastern Cape. The event brought together more than 800 school principals from across all nine provinces.

Xulu received the inaugural Top Leadership Award and was invited as an esteemed guest speaker to deliver a keynote address entitled ‘Transforming the Education Landscape with Inclusive Digital Innovation’. His presentation struck a chord with delegates, sparking widespread interest and prompting invitations from principals eager to implement his innovative methods in their own schools.

This recognition follows a string of notable achievements. In 2023, Xulu was named KwaZulu-Natal’s ‘National Best Teacher’ and since January last year, he has led several impactful initiatives at Nkwabazi Primary. These include securing green school status, founding the Nkwabazi Garden Club to support learners and their families, and restoring the school’s water supply after nearly seven years without access.
His accomplishments have been celebrated not only by staff and learners, but also by the broader education community.
“Leadership is not about the resources you have, but the vision you pursue,” Xulu said.
