Arborpark Primary celebrates top rugby and netball achievements
Arborpark Primary is praising its coaches and applauding the Umbani teams for excelling in rugby and netball tournaments.
Arbor Park Primary School in Newcastle is celebrating after its first team rugby coach, Marcél Swartz, was named Best Primary School Rugby Coach of 2025 by the Northern KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Board.
Known for his humility and unwavering passion for the sport, Mr Swartz has inspired countless young players through his commitment and positive coaching style.
School representatives praised him for using “the talents God has given him with dedication and a sincere love for developing young players,” adding that his achievement reflects both his personal values and the school’s proud sporting tradition.
His commitment to nurturing talent, both on and off the field, has yielded remarkable results, with several of his players going on to achieve success in their rugby careers.
“Coach Swartz is a humble leader who always puts his players first,” a school spokesperson said. “His belief that you never lose, but learn from every opportunity, has inspired our teams to reach new heights.”
“The school gives all glory to God for the talents and success that continue to flourish under his guidance.
The school also congratulates Siya Ntshangase, who has been named the Best Primary School Referee in Northern KwaZulu-Natal. Mr
Ntshangase’s dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence have earned him this accolade.
“His passion for fair play and for developing school sport continues to inspire learners.”

Umbani 7s Rugby
The Umbani Invitational 7s rugby team delivered an exceptional performance at the GLRU (Lions) Primary Schools Interprovincial 7s Tournament, held at Monument High School in Krugersdorp from September 9 – 20.
The team, made up of talented boys from Egerton, Arborpark, Huttenpark, Drakensberg, and NRS Primary, impressed throughout the competition with their skill, teamwork, and determination.
Umbani began their campaign with a dominant 52–0 win over the Suzuki Invitational side, followed by a strong 36–14 victory over the Lions B team.
In a tightly contested pool match, they narrowly went down 15–19 to the Free State Cheetahs.
The semi-final delivered a thrilling contest against the Lions A team, with Umbani narrowly defeated 7–5 after the final hooter.
Showing remarkable resilience, the boys bounced back in the 3rd/4th playoff to defeat the Free State Cheetahs 15–14, securing a well-deserved bronze medal.The Umbani Invitational 7s team again demonstrated the depth of rugby talent within the region.
Arbor Park Primary has expressed its pride in these achievements and gratitude to valued sponsors NTT Motorgroup, Roots Butchery, and SPUR.

Umbani Netball
The Umbani Netball Team made the region proud at the Father’s Ground Fast 5 Netball Tournament, held on October 31 and November in White River, Mpumalanga.
Representing Arborpark, Drakensberg, Huttenpark, and Egerton Primary School, these talented young athletes showcased outstanding teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Umbani delivered an exceptional performance, winning six out of their seven matches and finishing in 2nd place overall.

- Umbani vs White River C — 15–2
- Umbani vs White River B — 13–9
- Umbani vs Ohrigstad — 24–0
- Umbani vs Steelpoort — 24–6
- Umbani vs White River A — 6–17
Each match reflected the players’ passion, skill, and determination; qualities that shone both on and off the court.
The Arbor Park coaching team is incredibly proud of every player. Their teamwork, sportsmanship, and never-give-up attitude are truly inspiring.
