Vryheid High athletes excel at district level
VHS learners excel in hockey, rugby tour and KZN netball showcase.
Learners from Vryheid High School delivered outstanding performances across various sporting codes over the past week, proudly representing the school at district and provincial levels.
Hockey players earn Zululand selection
On February 11, the school’s hockey teams participated in the district trials held at Hoërskool Pionier. Following a competitive day of matches, several VHS players earned their place in the Zululand team, which competed in the Country District Trials on February 22.
The selected girls are:
N Danisa, S Ngcobo, S Mdlalose, E Buthelezi, A Nene, Z Nkosi, A Zwane, M Chituku and A Khumalo.
The selected boys are:
J Dunn, L Msibi and S Dhooma.
The school expressed pride in the learners’ achievements, noting that their dedication and hard work were clearly reflected in their success.
Rugby tour provides valuable preseason preparation
Meanwhile, the VHS u16 and first rugby teams embarked on an exciting tour to Kroonstad, where they faced Hentie Cilliers and Trio in physically demanding encounters. Although the teams suffered losses, the matches provided valuable preseason preparation and highlighted the players’ resilience and determination.
Following Saturday’s fixtures, the teams attended an enriching rugby clinic, further sharpening their skills ahead of the upcoming season. VHS extended its appreciation to Mr J Booyens, Mr N Nieuwenhuizen, Mr Z Steyn and Mr R Scholtz for accompanying and supporting the boys throughout the tour.
Netball star shines at provincial level
In netball news, congratulations were extended to Nongcebo Mhlongo, who competed in the KZN Premier’s Cup over the weekend. Her participation in this prestigious event stands as a significant achievement for both her and the school.
Vryheid High School celebrates these successes as a testament to the commitment, talent and hard work of its learners and coaches, and looks forward to a promising sporting season ahead.
