School spirit shines at Vryheid Relay Night
Ferrum claims victory at vibrant Vryheid High School Relay Night.
Vryheid came alive with colour, noise and fierce school spirit as the annual Vryheid High School Relay Night once again proved why it is one of the most anticipated events on the Northern KwaZulu-Natal sporting calendar.
Schools from across the region gathered to test their speed, teamwork and endurance in an atmosphere charged with excitement. Participating this year were Vryheid High School, Hoërskool Pionier, Hoër Landbou Skool, Ferrum High School, Sarel Cilliers High School and Dundee High School, each bringing their own supporters and traditions to the track.
Electrifying atmosphere and fierce competition
From the moment the first whistle blew, the stands echoed with singing, drumming and coordinated dances as learners rallied behind their teams. The relay programme featured a variety of races, including the fast-paced 4x100m and 4x150m, as well as the demanding 4x400m, ensuring thrilling competition throughout the evening.
Beyond the athletics, the event once again served as a unifying moment for the Vryheid community. Parents, past pupils and local residents packed the venue, proudly backing their schools and cheering on familiar faces under the floodlights.
Ferrum claims overall victory
When the final results were announced, Ferrum High School emerged victorious, lifting the overall trophy after a series of strong performances. Hoërskool Pionier followed closely in second place, while the host school, Vryheid High School, secured a respectable third. Hoër Landbou Skool finished the evening in fifth position.
As the crowds filtered out and the celebrations continued, one thing was clear, the Relay Night remains more than just a competition, it is a celebration of youth, unity and the enduring pride of school sport in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
