St Dominics Newcastle marked Mandela Day with a meaningful initiative that brought together compassion, community and school spirit.

Learners create Jars of Hope

Learners from the primary and Hope schools participated in creating Jars of Hope – every one carefully packed with dry ingredients to provide a hot, nutritious meal for many families in the local community during the cold winter months.

With the simple addition of water and a little time on the stove, each jar becomes a hearty meal offering comfort and hope to those in need.

The initiative encouraged learners to reflect on the importance of giving back and demonstrated how small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

The school extends its sincere appreciation to the St Dominics parent community, whose generous donation of jars and ingredients made the project possible.

Their support enabled every learner to take part in an initiative that embodied the spirit of Mandela Day and reinforced the values of compassion, generosity and community service.

Sport strengthens school spirit

The day’s celebrations continued with a series of exciting inter-house football matches between Raphaels, Michaels and Roses houses.

Learners gathered on the sidelines to cheer on their peers, creating an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, encouragement and healthy competition.

The matches showcased excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship, further strengthening the sense of unity within the school.
