Mixed marriage complaints procedure

Madam – I do not wish to start a discussion about race or religion.

Many couples in town are in the same position as me, and it is time to address small minded.

I’m white and married for 6 years to a beautiful Christian Indian lady.

However, wherever we go in this little town we love so much, certain people will stare at us in disapproval. But we got used to it, greatly

ignore it, and just do our own thing.

This week, I overheard a lady working in a shop, telling another person in a very disapproving and rather loud way about how her ex is marrying an Indian lady, how goat and sheep do not mate, and how by doing such a thing, he has brought shame to his family, children, and her as an ex wife from a marriage broken up 20 years ago.

Which is exactly the problematic point of view shared by all the staring inhabitants of their tiny world.

To Christians, we are all the descendants of Adam, and later Noah. We’re all of one race, the human race. All human beings are classified as Homo Sapiens. We are all of one blood (Acts 17:26) No sheep, no goats. Thus at best, we are all either sheep or goat of different colours.

All through the Bible, since the beginning, we find interracial marriages. Very prominently Moses marrying an Ethiopian or Cushite woman, and when brother Aaron and sister Miriam openly disapproved of her colour and questioned God’s decision to allow it, He called upon them and made Miriam leprous.

Joseph was married to Asenath, an Egyptian. Joshua wed Rahab, a Caananite. Boaz wed Ruth, a Moabite. All women from other races and cultures converted to Christianity.

That’s just naming a few. Fact is, God never suggested interracial marriages was wrong. Only that a Christian shouldn’t marry a non-Christian, irrespective of colour and race.

Suddenly don’t feel like it anymore? Mmmmm, thought so!

Is it not then time that we all grow up, stop staring, gossiping and being racist, see and recognise the good in each other, take hands and accept each other and our differences, and rather spend our time and effort in making this town and country work?
