Madam – Honest bidders in Newcastle are getting fed up especially after reading your report on page 2 of 15 November 2013 on the municipality facing a lawsuit amounting to R20-million.

It is a known fact amongst bidders that the municipality has had numerous allegations against them for dishonest handling and awarding of bids.

One only has to look at the Phelindaba saga which incurred wasteful expenditure of more than a million Rand paid to a contractor due to bad management from the side of this municipality.

There are countless concerns addressed to the municipality directing their attention to officials “doctoring, and even removing”certain documents accompanying completed bids and awarding bids to unqualified persons who have had no relevant experience, who then seek the help of existing contractors to finish off the job. There are contractors out here dying to work, and serve the community.

All that is asked is that honesty, integrity and transparency be shown from the side of the municipality when awarding bids.

HONEST JOE
