* The pillar of time has made its uninterrupted turn. The town, nay the province, stands in bowed reverence before this symbol of enlightenment – Windsor High School. 10 decades of noble standing and quality learning has produced better-equipped citizens to take their rightful places in society. Fingering through records and conversing with students of yesteryear, one cannot but wonder in amazement at the wealth of knowledge disbursed or the treasury of achievements under its spreading wings.
Notwithstanding “experience is an arch through which gleams an unchartered world that fades forever and ever when I move” but having passed through the portals of Windsor, one cannot help but feel reassured that the dwindling world can be held in abeyance. Windsorians are equipped to make themselves an integral part of society and to carve particular niches in the development of communities and nation-building.
* The very first school athletics sports meeting was held on September 13, 1947.
* Mr M Perumal, the principal, was transferred to Tongaat Boys’ School on October 3, 1947.
* Mr M Subban assumed duties as principal on October 14, 1947.
* On January 26, 1948, Messrs DH Singh, RR Naicker and V Krishna assumed duties as assistant teachers.
* On December 9, 1948, the school hosted an Arts & Crafts Exhibition that was open for public viewing for three days.
* On April 14, 1949, a dustbin was stolen from the school and the theft was reported to the police.
* On May 29, 1949, the school participated in the first Inter-School Athletics meeting in Dundee and annexed the Composite, Junior and Juvenile trophies.
* On August 31, 1949, 20 trees were planted to celebrate a century of education in South Africa.
* On November 20, 1949, gale-force winds blew away a newly-erected roof off the boys’ latrine.
* On January 23, 1950, Mr JR Singh assumed duties as an assistant teacher. Mr S Kallichurum went on six months’ long leave.
* On February 22, 1950, the school was closed to allow pupils to see the Australia vs Country Districts cricket match.
* On May 25, 1950, the principal’s office was burgled. The matter was reported to the police.
* On May 31, 1950, the second Inter-Schools Athletics competition was held in Ladysmth and our school was victorious for the second year in succession.
* On June 26, 1950, the school was closed to observe a National Day of Prayer & Protest about laws passed by the National Government against non-whites.
* On October 12, 1950, the school closed early to participate in the Ladysmith Centenary Celebrations.
* On January 22, 1951, Mr AM Manjoo assumed duties as an assistant teacher.
* On April 4, 1951, Mrs MP Narrandes assumed duties as a Locum Tenens.
* On June 20, 1951, a teacher was warned not to use corporal punishment after a complaint was lodged by Mr Habib S Khan of Murchison Street.
* On August 7, 1951, Mr SL Sewgolam was granted leave by the Education Department. He got married.
* On August 18, 1951, Mr M Subban, the principal, passed away at 12.20pm.
