The true meaning of Christmas

Madam – I would really like to say ‘thank you’ to our Town Council for the lovely Christmas lights decorating our main streets this year.

They give a very happy feeling to our town.

I also would like to mention that most of us do not see this time of the year as the ‘festive season’, which seems to be the term to use.

This is the ‘Christmas Season’, the time of the year when we remember Christ’s birth. If it’s a festive season, what are we ‘feasting’ about? Every Public Holiday has a reason for being, and this one is no different. If not for the birth of Jesus, the Saviour, there would be nothing to celebrate at this time.

So let’s remember, it is not just a time to ‘eat, drink and be merry’, JESUS is the reason for the season!

So, Newcastle, have a blessed and happy CHRISTMAS, and remember to GIVE as well to receive.
