Disappointed with march organisers

Madam – 100th anniversary if Mahatma Ghandi’s Sathyagraha.

The peace march from Charlestown to Volksrust was badly organised by Newcastle organisers.

I received a flier signed by a Newcastle councillor that transport and meals would be provided. I waited for three hours at a designated pickup point but no bus turned up.

Disappointed, I used my own car but I reached there to find that over half the march was over. I could not take part. Thousands of sathyagrahis came from Durban and Pietermaritzburg by special train. There were thousands of other people.

I also found out that many local people did not know about the march. The next disappointment was that meals for vegetarians were late. I was told that hundreds of peace marchers only received their meals before the train left.

I, myself, like hundreds of others, waited in vain for meals. Surely the organisers could have done a better job.

The Ward Cllrdid distribute flyers as requested by the organizers but the event was entirely organized by the Province (KZN Arts and Culture and Premier’s Office) and not Newcastle Municipality, Our Role as the Municipality was to facilitate and also convey information to the community, we therefore request that you liaise with the 2 Provincial Departments for further clarity.
