This was just what we did, my wife and I. We went to the Vryheid Traffic department to renew our drivers licenses on December 3. This is what happened next: 1. The cashier told us that the documents were wrong, they should have been green, no problem, we completed the said green documents. I just wondered why we have the choice of downloading any documents. 2. We were told then by the cashier that we had to sit on the bench and wait to have our fingerprints taken. There we sat and waited with nobody in sight to further assist us. 3. We noticed people that came in long after us, went into a room as they pleased and we wondered what was happening in that room, as nobody came forth for our fingerprints. There was also a young chap waiting for the same. 4. Eventually another person told us that we needed to go into the room where the traffic was quite heavy (where we wondered what was happening in there). My wife then knocked on the door and asked the lady in there (Me Zwane – if this is her real name!) if this was were we must come for fingerprints, at which she immediately called on the security guy sitting at the door. The lady told my wife that we had to wait our turn sitting on the bench. There was hardly space!! I told Me Zwane that I have a back problem and cannot stand or sit for so long. She told me I have to sit. I told her that we have been waiting for approximately 30 minutes. In front of everybody there she accused me of being a liar. 5. This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable and offensive and an attack on my human rights. Why did she help so many others without getting out of her office to call person by person those sitting waiting on the bench? This is what she did after the ordeal!! I really hope that in future there will be a proper system with efficient people that will be of assistance to the broad public of Vryheid.

Kumarin Naicker, Acting Manager Public Safety:
Your email has reference: I apologies for the late reply due to other work related commitments. I personally had a meeting with the Management Representative DLTC together with the said cashiers. We are taking reasonable steps to ensure that this kind of matter does not occur. We are currently short of specialized cashiers that are carrying out several sensitive functions at the DLTC and time can be a problem. I appreciate your concern and also apologize for any inconvenience caused.
