Editor – As a resident of our little town, I would like to express my irritation regarding the loud fireworks that continued for days over New Year.
Yes, days! Fireworks were still going off and disturbing the peace on January 3! I do think that fireworks are pretty, but must we put up with the loud ones? Why aren’t there stricter laws and regulations surrounding fireworks?
There were many people who were setting off fireworks in residential areas and I’m pretty sure they were not fined or given any warnings whatsoever. It is not just over New Year that we have to deal with our eardrums nearly breaking, but many times throughout the year for various religious celebrations as well. Usually they are celebrations of light, not noise and havoc! Our poor animals are terrified half to death at this time and no one seems to really care. It infuriates me to the Nth degree that there are no laws banning loud fireworks. There are also many people who allow their children to light fireworks. When did reckless parenting become something we turn a blind eye to? People need to become much less selfish and think about what they are doing to those around them!
