Madam – Refuse collection, Flatten your boxes.

The collection of refuse is a big problem and a big job for the people concerned.

I believe all of us could help a bit by just simply flattening our boxes. A simple item like a milk carton, when squashed, only takes up a fraction of the volume it needs ‘as is’, not to mention boxes from chips, washing powder or whisky.

It will take not too many of those to fill up a bin – or ‘dumpster’ – essentially with a lot of air. And that is when the bin will overflow and the wind will do its bit to soil countryside.

And it will lay there for many months to come making our town a dirty town. And yet it is so easy, and so quick, to flatten – or cut up – a simple cardboard box.
