Money for animals spent on parties?

Since when has it become the responsibility of the Animal Anti-Cruelty League to carry the costs of stray animals?

Editor – Re: In response to the letter in last week’s Gazette under the headline ‘Council must stop abuse’.

All I can say is, WHAT AN OUTRAGE! Since when has it become the responsibility of the Animal Anti-Cruelty League to carry the costs of stray animals, inclusive of veterinary fees, on behalf of the municipality? Mr Mayor, there is a Pounds Act according to which all municipalities are bound.

A service agreement in terms of the Act should have been implemented years ago and this service was to be budgeted for in your annual budget. This has quite obviously never been done, so my question to you is: “What has happened to the money from your budget?” There again, what a stupid question! Where else would the hundreds of thousands of rands come from for all the parties?

Mr Mayor, how do you intend to repay them for all the costs they have been subjected to over the years on behalf of the municipality?
