Resident disappointed with mall management

Madam – Shame on you Newcastle Mall.

The Newcastle Mall management’s response to my letter (Abuse of Disabled Parking published 6 February 2014) is as disgraceful as the inconsiderate drivers who abuse the disabled parking bays.

To Newcastle Mall Management: Aren’t you ashamed of yourselves for abdicating your responsibility in such a manner? Our constitution enshrines equal rights for the disabled. Yet, what you are saying is that as long as you merely designate a parking bay as a disabled bay, you no longer have any responsibility to ensure that disabled people have access to that parking.

You justify your poor management of the disabled parking facilities by saying that your security staff have more important tasks to do, such as ensuring the safety of shoppers. Alas, you miserably fail in that task as well, as I have heard of several instances recently where shoppers have been targeted by thieves and bag-snatchers in the Newcastle Mall parking.

Shame on you Newcastle Mall!

Newcastle Mall Management was contacted for comment on the above letter. However, management chose not to respond. Centre Manager, Hester Malan, said although they have no immediate comment to the letter, management is planning to issue a media release with regards to disabled parking at a later stage.
