South Africa has one of the best legislation to regulate waste collection, storage and transportation comparable to the laws internationally.
For the environment to be protected, every business and individual has to conduct waste generation and dispersal in a responsible manner with businesses authorised to do so, as our business is.
A failure to do so can attract severe fines and criminal prosecutions because waste does not only affect the environment but it can also attract vermin and create pollution and unhealthy conditions to the public.
For those businesses who are operating irresponsibly by disposing of waste to unauthorised persons or discarding unnecessarily at the municipal waste landfill site, or exposing the waste to wind dispersal, fires and air pollution, storage over long periods can result in waste being carried into our drainage systems, water courses and contaminated ground water, which are offences in terms of NEMA and this is also irresponsible conduct and involves the risk of attracting investigations from the authorities.
For every person to make a contribution to our environment, global warming and also systematic recycling, we need to make a positive impact by controlling our waste, encouraging recycling and also being proactive in encouraging proper dissemination of waste and being more careful.
It is disturbing to find that many still adopt inconsiderate and haphazard methods of dealing with their waste. We are willing to assists anyone with advice or guidance as to how you can play a positive role in this process including our schools and institutions.
