Ratepayers give thanks to Electrical SED

Madam – TRAFFIC FLOW PROBLEMS ALLEN/HOSPITAL STREET INTERSECTION.
The Newcastle Ratepayers’ Association wishes to refer to a concern raised in an SMS to the mayor, reported in the Advertiser of 28 February 2014, in connection with the traffic problem at the Allen/Hospital streets intersection and the mayor’s response to refer the matter to the responsible department for investigation.
For the information of the concerned motorist and the residents of Newcastle we wish to inform them that this problem was raised by this Association in a letter to the Municipal Manager on 1 August 2013.
As no response was forthcoming, the Strategic Executive Director, Electrical and Mechanical Services was approached in a letter dated 8 November 2013, following which a meeting was set up for 21 November 2013 with representatives of the Association.
This afforded Messrs Chris Le Roux and Peter Hair an opportunity to discuss the problem in detail which was sympathetically received by the Executive Director.
It can now be reported that the necessary equipment to provide for a three-way signalling system has been installed on 1 March 2014 and the Association wishes to record it’s and the community’s appreciation to the Strategic Executive Director and his team for this improvement, making a right turn into Hospital Street much easier and safer.
