The Democratic Alliance condemn the latest action of the municipal staff on strike in the strongest terms possible. There is absolutely no justification for this type of hooliganism. Everybody has the right to strike (even if it is illegal) but no one has the right to put people’s lives in danger as was the case last Friday and on previous occasions. To add to the mess that was left in town and the main municipal building , SABOTAGE has raised it’s ugly head. The first incident was when electricity was cut to the whole town last Monday to inconvenience the very public who pay their salaries. As if this was not enough the substation at the swimming pool was destroyed. The next target was the main reservoir that supplies town, resulting in no water to the whole of Vryheid. Electricity poles in the Coronation area were cut down, also resulting in people not having electricity. The electricity supply to Bloemveld dam was also sabotaged. We believe that Mondlo residents are also out of water because of sabotage. We wish to thank all the people who jumped in and cleaned our streets so swiftly, a great effort much appreciated.
