We continue to thank our Water Crisis Committee (WCC) for the long tedious, sterling work put in for the community’s gain.
They are our soldiers protecting our rights, which Uthukela have infringed on.
Their sleepless nights and their discomfort for our sake have been paid off by Uthukela writing off the bill and starting afresh.
I agree with Javed Haroon that they were not compensated by the entire community and just a few dug deep into their pockets for the disbursements of attorney’s costs.
For six years they have stood by us and did not throw in the towel and with the same towel wiped our tears of joy.
Today we are now relaxed and not tense by what will be the outcome for the bill.
We have trusted our appointed heroes and they have given what our community deserved.
They brought back our rights, which we lost.
In the same token, we are aware that funds have been deposited in the WCC Trust Account, would it not be correct to compensate our heroes who have forced Uthukela District Municipality to write off our accounts, which ran into millions and negotiated that a fresh account be sent?
Surely they have worked while we had no idea what bombardments they went through.
They were at the beck and call of the community, working hard to see that every household had water, which is essential to thrive.
My personal opinion is that we must not use our heroes as doormats and they have to be compensated for their sterling work, especially our attorney Mr Rashid Patel who has done this for the poor and the rich.
He has done his share for the pleasure of the community and will be blessed by the Almighty.
He has prepared voluminous heads of argument documents, which can be viewed, at his office, he also briefed advocates and attended court proceedings and he was the brain behind all closed doors. We salute you Rashid, may God bless you and may the community decide on paying you for your efforts from the WCC Trust Fund before that too is stolen.
