THE WAY the IEC handled the Ward 22 by-election last week did not do honour to the name of our town. Nor, you are right, to Democracy itself. But, be pleased, dear Editor and readers, to take note that my fight for democracy and for Vryheid is not over. I’m an Afrikaner. And I’m an African. That makes for an A+. We don’t give up. Doubly not. I know you and your readers won’t give up either. With papers like the Vryheid Herald and a few others of your kin, don’t worry, Democracy is with us and we’ll win the day. As any boxer or rugby team will tell you, it’s the knock-out of the opponent in later rounds that matters, not so much the blows we take in round 1 and 2. I have lived overseas, in France and several other European countries, for a total of 11 years, as a political anti-apartheid refugee. Let me tell you, despite the ANC’s growing corruption, creeping rot and crass abuse of power and even of the courts, South Africa is still the best place I have lived in, by far. And we’ll make it the better place for all that the ANC has promised but so patently failed to deliver on. In my fight for democracy, I have called on all minority parties to support me. The current joint action by eight minority parties (ACDP, Agang, Azapo, COPE, EFF, IFP, UCDM, UDM) to remove the Chair of the (Un)Indepedent Electoral Commission, ANC Comrade Pansy Tlakula, within the next seven days, must be seen as a national result of my local fight for democracy. However, I’m deeply disappointed that the DA and the FF+ did not join in my campaign… Only the National Freedom Party (NFP) of our District Mayor Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi filed an affidavit in support of my last action in the Electoral Court to support the further postponement of the by-election in Ward 22. I will be voting for the NFP henceforth, and have joined these National Vryheidvegters whose power base is Zululand and KZN. Together with the NFP, whose full support I enjoy in this battle, we’ll be continuing with the court actions to have the by-election declared invalid, unfree and unfair, set it aside, and have a rerun. This, too, is the power of democracy. Believe! Contrary to ANC propaganda, I’m not to blame for the delay in seeing a new Ward Councillor elected and represent Ward 22 on the Council. It is the direct result of the ANC and IFP jointly bussing in 100s and even 1000s of fraudulent registrants. I will not stop the battle till the ANC and the IFP are scrapped from the by-election ballot. Rest assured : these two parties (ANC & IFP) will be brought to book publically, in full sight not only of the people of Vryheid and of the Zululand District, but of the entire KZN and South Africa, with the national consequences that such an outcome will have on the already abbreviated longevity and accelerating decline of these two big rule-breakers, this Alliance of Nepotists & Corrupters (ANC). Rest assured, they will have to kill me (and they have tried four times now) to stop me. Vryheid is where the ANC and IFP tide will turn and ebb away into a freak low tide, to both disappear nationally, as the NP did before it. Aluta continua !
