Sir,
Since seeing the shocking picture of the rubbish snowing out the football field after the Safety and Security Imbizo, I had a few thoughts:
Why do we need to have our tax money spent on such expensive functions to advertise services we expect the state to provide?
We welcome the on-going, regular use by organisations and sporting bodies of the Oval – it’s great for our community and good for democracy.
These organisations must pay fees to the municipality to use the facilities. Does the Council charge extra – a refundable deposit – in case of breakages?
Do they charge extra to cover the costs of cleaning up the place afterwards? Unemployed people could be paid for this service, thus alleviating some of their worries. The litterbugs will be, in effect, putting money back into the community.
