Although we hear daily that crime is on the decrease in this town, there’s little evidence of that in some residential areas. For instance, in one weekend alone four homes were invaded and the police arrived late with much umm’ing and aaaah’ing. Where is the professionalism? We’re so sorry your lunch break/snooze time was disrupted so you could actually DO YOUR JOB!
I think I have the right to be angry. Is there any Newcastillian out there who has not been affected by crime either directly or indirectly? My family was even held up on Christmas Day, many years ago, and the cops were so lacklustre and slow the guys got away right under their noses!
And we still wonder why people talk so much about leaving this country. I will never leave; I love my home town and its people. But for the crime, which I know exists everywhere, and the absolute lack of interest from people who are supposed to dedicate their lives to “serve and protect”, I would be happy living and dying here.
Now we have cops who rob shop owners and threaten them and hijack women and children. What is this country coming to? It makes me fear for my own children at this rate of decline.
I can only hope citizen journalism will expose these crooked individuals, so we can feel safe once more.
