Madam – The SPCA in this town takes a lot of abuse and negativity at the hands of our so-called ‘animal loving community’.

I have witnessed first hand the kindness of the individuals who dedicated their lives to caring about animals and what happens to them. And all I ever see on Facebook, apart from the one or two good souls who take the time to understand the actual mandate of the organisation, is people whining that the pound and SPCA are useless and rude.

Let me ask you something Newcastle.

Do you think that your personality will always be sunny if you are witness to horrific animal abuse, day after day? Will you be smiling all the time after fielding silly questions from the public, who should by now know what you do for a living?

Would you take verbal and emotional abuse at the hands of the same public you are supposed to be serving?

How would you feel about humanity after having to treat and see to animals – puppies and kittens especially – who are left at the roadsite to rot and die? How would you feel if you have to wade through the darkness and cruelty a human being can inflict upon an innocent animal?

Wouldn’t you also be ‘rude’? I know I sure as heck would!

Next time you are eager to sit behind your computer and trash the SPCA from the comfort of your life, stop and THINK.

Wake up
