Sir,
The Congress of South African Students (COSAS) in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, Inkosi Bhambhatha Region, commends the justice system in South Africa for the strong verdict passed for the murder of Elizabeth Nhleko who was a grade 6 learner at Luvisi Primary and Vusi Ntombela, who was an REC Member of the African National Congress in Inkosi Bhambhatha Region, the speaker of the Nquthu Municipality, and most importantly, an Educator and Deputy Principal of the Luvisi Primary School in Nquthu,
The 25 years verdict for the murder of cde Ntombela was a good one, and we applaud it, as well as the five years verdict for the illegal firearm and three years for the illegal ammunition. However, we are not that satisfied with the 18 years verdict for the murder of our Learner, Elizabeth Nhleko.
As the Region, we are believe that this man should have got 25 years for the murder of Elizabeth Nhleko as well.
We were shocked to find out that there are people who use our schools as shooting ranges, and grounds for fire arms. We take schools as the safest place to be; of peace and for us to enrich our minds as students.
Our schools are off limits to violence; we will always say and preach that as COSAS.
Let’s hope that the Government has finally seen the importance of high security in our schools, because we have been preaching that for a long time.
The need of security in our schools is dire,.
But we also don’t want to see old pensioners playing security in our schools, we need tough security.
All in all we are happy that everyone will see that our schools are not for fire arm grounds, or for any kind of games for that matter.
Long Live the spirit of cde Ntombela Long Live.
Long Live the spirit of Elizabeth Nhleko Long Live.
Siyabonga Phakathi, Cosas Regional Convenor
