Madam – I have been a licensed driver for about 26 years now and there is not a day that goes by of late when I wonder if the road rules have changed and I was not informed.

We see our esteemed speed cops sit behind their cameras in their usual spots or clustered in one area, pulling over cars for licensing but we never see them doing anything about moving violations.

I now drive with a dash cam because I know that the speed cop will not have my back in the event of an incident because nine times out of 10 they will not bother to pitch up, unless of course a ‘politically connected’ individual causes a massive accident and needs to be protected. (for example outside Newcastle Mall).

We have people driving against traffic, jumping red traffic lights, stopping in an intersection to have a chat with a buddy coming the other way and not even bothering to stop at a four-way stop… Impala/Coronation streets. HINT HINT!!

Phoning the traffic department to raise an issue is useless, because if you can decipher the mumblings of the telephone operator and get your message across their usual response is ‘there is no one here to talk to you.’

So whom does our tax money pay if ‘no one is there’? So the only thing we, the public, can do is take evasive actions, pray our car survives a trip across town and buy a dash cam for just in case.
