Madam – It is with great disgust that I can honestly say that for once I am not proud to be able to say I am a South African.

With the Government making it legal to abolish the innocence of childhood by making it legal for children to be sexually active, it is only the first step towards worse to come. I myself have children and I can tell you that in no way can I support the decision made by the people who are supposedly running this country.

Running it into the ground more like!

When I was 12 years old, I was out riding my bike and playing with dolls. Yes, it is on the cusp of being a teenager, but the essence of childhood is supposed to be its innocence. I know that in this country the harsh reality is that there are many child-headed households, poverty and more. This is forcing children to grow up before their time.

But how does making sexual relations legal between minors make it morally or ethically responsible? How does it make things right in this declining country?

I am absolutely horrified that the ‘powers that be’ felt this was the only way of ‘educating’ children – to legalise something that should be reserved for a special someone – it should be a magical moment in an ADULT’S life, not something for children barely out of pre-school to be doing.

While the debate has now become a moral one, it seems the people yet again have no say about what happens in their own country. What next?

Hey government, why not legalise drugs? That way, you can also abdicate responsibility for the drug problem in this country. Why not make crime legal? That way you won’t have to get off your lazy butts and actually do what you’re being paid to do!

Anti-legal
