Crossfit ‘dynamite’ inspires me

Madam – I refer to your article of last week, “This crossfit dynamite comes in a small package”.

It is so refreshing to read about local women taking a keen interest in sport, which is usually very male dominated. Well done Bianca!

I myself am a keen sportswoman, and I try to instill that love of all things healthy in my children. It is not easy balancing a family with work, the daily household chores, and still finding the time to pursue your own passions.

Most days, at the end of a hard day, all any mother wants to do is lie in a bubble bath once the children are in bed and just relax. In fact, I am guilty of the same thing. A quote from Bianca’s story has really inspired me though:

“I wouldn’t say it’s easier for women; it’s about the same. When men begin training, they are expected to lift heavy weights immediately; they don’t expect as much from a woman. To be honest, the expectations fall more on men, making it easier for female athletes to kind of slip through the cracks.”

This says a lot about the society we live in, where women are generally expected to be softer (weaker) than men. We know from experience this is not true!

What Bianca said really struck a chord within me, especially because this a month dedicated to women. Women are the backbones of any community.
