Sir
It is with great sadness that I respond to the article dated September 9 with regards to the RDP houses being built in Sithembile.
Although we are happy that a few more people are no longer homeless we are saddened that many more are still homeless.
The Glenridge area in Glencoe has been without RDP houses for years on end. Promises to build have been in the pipeline for years but, unfortunately, have not materialised.
To add salt to peoples wounds, the municipality and councillors have not been able to inform the people as to if and when these so-called RDP houses are going to be built, and how many houses are going to be built.
The title deed saga:
It’s not rocket science to backtrack on your data base and know who the legal owners of the houses or occupants are and to cut long stories short give those occupants their title deeds.
It should not effect the council as to whether those people have managed to improve the status and salaries over the years. It is irrelevant.
The reason being that they are trying to say that people should not put in an effort to try and improve their lifestyle because they occupy the “49 houses”.
It is just an excuse to hold back the title deeds for the municipality to make more money out of those houses.
As people of Glenridge, we have been waiting for answers for years to no avail and are disappointed to find that we hold no importance to the municipality and the councillors.
We would like an urgent response to this letter and no more dragging of the issue.
The elections are coming up and we would like to know if our votes count or are we just voting to put people on pedestals.
