Kasie life – it has it’s perks and dangers – but it is fun

Under my hat - Sister Suss

I must say growing up in a township must be one of the greatest gifts – it certainly has its ‘perks.’ People praise you for the small little things, like being smart at school.

You hear neighbours talking to each other about you like you are the first person in the area to have brains.

Even a smoker, you once felt sorry for, asks for R5 instead of R2 and their ‘hunger’ will continue to praise you for years to come just because of that encounter.

Your very own people – those whom you once called friends – when they hear you have a job are keen to help you spend all your money all at once.
If you are stupid enough not to think for yourself, you’ll end up with nothing but a bunch of people who help you ruin your life.
Then you get those guys and girls whom nobody knows much about – those who are stay-at-home kinda people – loners to put it bluntly.
These people are so rare that everybody wants a piece of them.
If you manage to spark up a conversation with them, its like an achievement of some sort. As a guy you will be praised for having the guts to talk to them.

Meanwhile, the chick is just a quite person but when you talk to them they are cool people; they just do not want to associate themselves with crowds.
As my grandmother always says, if you come from a poor family, people in the township look down on you until you become something better, then they respect you.

Funny though cause there are some families who used to be rich back in the 90’s but they still get that respect even if it’s only their great-grandfather who made a name for himself.

Somehow even if his grandchildren end up drunkards, their home is still respected.
Funny how the life in a Kasie has its own twists and turns but one can only look forward to making it pleasant.
