Imagine if voting was like Pop Idols?

If you liked the way Julius remixed the Rolling Stones with his version, Paint it red, then text EFF to 77425. Every week the party with the least votes would be eliminated from the competition. Each SMS would be free but you were only allowed to vote once.

Voter registration weekend has come and gone and left behind one clear message – People aren’t interested in voting because they don’t think it will make a difference.
It’s a really silly way of looking at it to be honest.
As Idols has proved, a few votes can decide who wins and who finishes runner-up.
Maybe people don’t want to stand in long queues in the sun.
Waiting for ages in a line full of people just to make a cross on a few pieces of paper, which may or may not make a difference later on, can be a bit much.
Maybe people want to be in the comfort of their homes, watching the action unfold on TV and then just text through their choice.
Elections should therefore be like Idols. Every week politicians would get a chance to tell South Africa how they plan on running the country in the form of a song.
Proverb would be in the back with the deputies watching intently while a panel of former leaders would be tasked with judging.
Randall Abrahams would be a special guest judge, because let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to see him tell politicians like it is.

South African’s could then vote via their phones. JZ would start the show with a remix of Jessie J’s, Price Tags.
The song would go something like, It’s all about the money, money, money. We just want your money, money money.
To vote for Bra Jacob, SMS ANC to 73647. If you think Musi did a good job with DA’s got a plan for you (a catchy rendition of Heaven’s got a plan for you by Swedish House Mafia) then text DA to 24643.

The winner would be announced after a grand finale in which Danny K would release his new single and Mandoza would make a surprise guest appearance.
The winning party would not only get to run the country till the next elections but would also get their motorcade sponsored by Ford, a free supply of Nandos while they are in power and access to tax payers money without having to account for how they spend it.
Oh wait, the last one is happening already.
