Voters need to take back our town

Residents, don't be gullible and also don't be inactive, if you do our town will sink further into ruin

Last week’s letter ‘Ex-councillor asks: Who are you voting for?’ brings into light a number of issues that I hope residents are taking into consideration ahead of the Local Government Elections.

It is plain to see that our town is slipping into ruin day-by-day. We have all seen the number of service delivery fails, which as the writer said last week falls on deaf ears.

We, as the voters, need to take back our town! The power remains with us to make the change we want to see. Kick out self-serving politicians and replace them with servants of the people. It seems to me that being a politician these days means fancy cars, expensive trips, bodyguards and big spending.

It is no longer considered a civil obligation to be in council and serve the interests of the people; councillors are now more interested in power struggles and gaining the vote through false promises.

I hope that residents remember the councillors who made these big promises when they wanted to be elected. Look around you, have these promises been fulfilled?

Residents, don’t be gullible and also don’t be inactive, if you do our town will sink further into ruin.
