Madam,
Newcastle is truly a town of cultural diversity, with residents proudly embracing their heritage.
In regards to the Newcastle Advertiser’s articles Festival of Chariots brings Lord Krishna to devotees and Grateful Taosits thank gods for rains, it is nice to see how people are not only proud to embrace their culture, but to openly display their faith as well.
I was fortunate enough to witness the Festival of Chariots and the friendliness of the people was refreshing, as they were truly immersed in their faith. I did not know much about the Hare Krishna faith until that day and it was an educational experience for me to witness, as I am sure it was for others.
By chance, on the way home from witnessing the festival going down Scott Street, I was lucky to see the Taoists during their procession.
It was truly a special day for me.
I believe that we as South Africans should focus more on our spiritual teachings and culture, than worrying about the trivial things in life. We should also not be embarrassed about who and what we are.
By displaying our faith and heritage, we can learn so much from each other and eventually leave the heartaches of the past behind.
Looking forward to create a new future,
Proud Jewish German
